Career and Consumer Science Syllabus

Career and Consumer Sciences (CACS) is a program designed to prepare students for everyday living. It provides them with the tools they need in order to apply academic knowledge to the real world. This course is designed for middle school students and consists of several unit designed to accomplish this, including self awareness, clothing management, wellness, financial independence, consumer resources, character development, career development, college exploration, and personal environment. The curriculum is designed to be student-centered and lessons are differentiated to accommodate all learners.

  1. By the end of this course, students will:

  2. Learn the importance of setting goals based on individual values.

  3. Understand how to make healthy food choices.

  4. Know the best methods for managing personal resources and finances.

  5. Learn how to become a savvy consumer.

  6. Learn what makes that make each individual unique.

  1. Create a visual representation, such as a collage, of one’s values and goals.

  2. Compare and contrast different financial planning methods.

  3. Demonstrate methods for making smart consumer choices.

  4. Evaluate the concept of self and develop positive self-improvement skills.

  5. Choose a potential career path based on personal interests and strengths.
